The document, produced by the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse) and the International Cooperative Alliance, analyses the performance of the 300 largest cooperative organisations in the world, and draws up sectoral rankings based on the financial figures for 2017, with the Espriu Foundation placed second behind the US enterprise Health Partners.

In the ranking of all cooperatives irrespective of their business sector, the Espriu Foundation climbs one position compared with the previous year, to 192nd place on the list.

The monitor also includes a ranking which takes into account the ratio between the turnover of each enterprise and the per capita GDP of the country where it is based. This figure serves to assess the economic contribution and positive impact generated in the country, while also giving an idea of the scale of the business in its national context.

One new feature added in this eighth edition of the study is information as to the volume of employment generated by each of the 300 listed organisations.

The report lastly features an analysis of the contribution of the top cooperative enterprises to inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive employment and decent jobs, all components of Sustainable Development Goal 8 on the UN's 2030 Agenda.
