The Espriu Foundation commits to the co-operative declaration on decent work and against workplace harassment

The Espriu Foundation, the second-leading network of health co-operatives in the world, supports the formal commitment approved by the co-operative movement to foster a decent work environment and zero tolerance towards any form of harassment.

he declaration, approved unanimously by the members of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) during the last General Assembly held on 21 October in Buenos Aires, is a commitment to respecting and promoting the fundamental tenets of decent work and working actively to uphold them.

“At the Espriu Foundation, we offer our support and undertake to fulfil the commitments included in the declaration, since they are fully aligned with the values ​​of cooperativism: self-help, personal responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity”, affirms Carlos Zarco, Managing Director of the Espriu Foundation.

The tenets contained in the declaration establish the freedom of association and full recognition of the right to collective bargaining, elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour, ending child exploitation, and elimination of employment discrimination in any form of work.

Likewise, the manifesto declares zero tolerance towards any type of sexual or moral harassment and violence or any other type of inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, such as intimidation, oppression and discrimination or abuse of power.

The document stresses that the international co-operative movement supports the Recommendation of the Promotion of Cooperatives of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) (2001) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015) of the United Nations (UN).
